The Grand Junction River Hawks delivered a complete, playoff-ready performance this past weekend, securing two impressive victories and continuing to build momentum at the perfect time of the season.
The River Hawks exploded offensively, netting 11 goals across two games, while continuing to showcase their defensive identity. Friday night’s dominant 8-2 win over Utah set the tone early, with contributions throughout the lineup and a lethal power play clicking at a high level.
From the scoresheet, the River Hawks generated 37 shots on goal and saw multiple special teams tallies, including three power-play goals and a shorthanded marker, highlighting their ability to impact the game in all situations.
Saturday night presented a different challenge — a tight, playoff-style battle against Rock Springs — but the River Hawks showed composure and resilience to close out a 3-2 victory.
River Hawks In Action

Weekend Results:
Friday, March 13: River Hawks def. Utah Outliers 8-2
Saturday, March 14: River Hawks def. Rock Springs Miners 3-2

Even in a tighter contest on Saturday, the River Hawks leaned into their structure and discipline:
Held Rock Springs to just 2 goals on 27 shots
Strong goaltending performance with 25 saves on the night
Limited second-chance opportunities and protected the middle of the ice effectively
This continues a trend of elite defensive play that has propelled the River Hawks’ penalty kill to the #1 spot in the Mountain Division.
Big Picture Takeaways
Season Series Wins:
River Hawks (5-4-0-0) win the season series vs. Utah Outliers | River Hawks (7-2-0-0) win the season series vs. Rock Springs Miners | Locked into 3rd Seed: While these games did not impact standings, they sent a clear message — the River Hawks are peaking at the right time. | Balanced Attack: Contributions across the lineup continue to drive success with 17 different players contributing on the scoresheet, making this team difficult to defend heading into playoffs. |

Special teams once again proved to be a major advantage:
Power Play: 30% efficiency on the weekend
Penalty Kill: Continued dominance, now top in the division
Multiple-game impact including PP goals and a key shorthanded goal Friday night
This is “Setting the Standard” hockey — dictating games in all three phases.
With one final weekend remaining in the regular season, the River Hawks are trending exactly where they want to be: Confident. Structured. Dangerous.
